The Legacy of Speed | 1974 BMW 3.5 CSL IMSA Race Car

BMW has an impressive legacy on and off of the track. Their E9 based 3.0 CSL put BMW back on the racing map in the ’70s, furthering their dominance while creating an iconic machine in the process. The 3.0 CSL took over the decade on the European Touring Car Championship circuit, though BMW was looking to build a following in North America.

BMW was organizing a factory network in North America, so they decided to set up a factory team to race in the IMSA Camel GT Championship and endurance races. In 1975 the 3.5 CSL pictured here took home the top spot at the 12 Hours of Sebring, along with five of 17 races in the ’75 IMSA season. This legend of speed is hitting the auction block, giving you the rare opportunity to own a piece of racing history. The ride features a period-correct 3.5-liter inline-six and is even seen rocking the iconic livery it wore for its Sebring victory. This particular 3.5 CSL is one of BMW’s most significant competition cars and would make a stunning addition to any serious racing collector.

Take a look at this legendary machine in the images and learn more about it from RM Sotheby’s right now. The car is slated to hit the auction block at the Monterey auction which takes place from August 15th through the 17th.
