The Remodeled Life | Porta Volta Garage Conversion

For fans of architecture and design, conversions are nothing new. Today we take a look at a conversion that is both charming and historic, while impressive and modern. The Porta Volta Garage Conversion is located in Milan. The structure is a former 19th-century auto repair garage. These days the structure fuses its historical roots with contemporary finishes. This unique space features custom furniture and outstanding attention to detail throughout.

The modern loft is located centrally in Milan, paying homage to its past in the process. The original arches and exposed brick walls add a dramatic aesthetic to the open living space. A larch wood ceiling complements the classic details, and concrete walls add a nice contrast. The furniture, fittings, and fixtures were designed by the architect. These unique elements come together to offer an industrial appeal. The home also includes subtle nautical references as a tribute to the owner’s passion for sailing.

These include wide-lank oak floors resembling the decking on boats, wooden stairs in the shape of propellers, and slate-colored bathroom tile from Liguria. The centerpiece of the interior is the staircase, a beautiful spiral design that leads to the upper-level’s master bedroom. The space is splendidly airy and welcoming, offering a luxurious allure that is undeniable.
