This Is Modern Living | The Cornerstone House

As you probably know by now, we have an affinity for modern architecture and design. Today we head to Melbourne to get a look at a beautiful modern dwelling situated in a former stone quarry. Intrigued? Well, the Cornerstone House merges its rugged past with a contemporary design. Created by Splinter Society Architects, the structure sits on a plot with a series of large boulders placed throughout the interior. The same boulders can be seen in the landscaping.

The stones were left in their original state, craned into position while the home was built around them. This helps give the dwelling its namesake, acting as partitions and more throughout. The structure’s modern aesthetics continue inside from the flooring to the furniture.

Contrasting the massive boulders is sleek metal siding on the exterior, while blackened timber slats and steel handrails are seen inside. Natural wood hues and rose-toned metals are a nice touch, adding to its contemporary approach. These natural colors also add warmth to the home, offering an inviting balance.

Take a closer look inside the Cornerstone House in the images below and learn more about this modern structure from Splinter Society Architects. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more contemporary design coming very soon.
