U-Boat Worx’s NEMO Personal Submarine

The Dutch company U-Boat Worx returns with some exciting news. The company has announced that volume production of its NEMO 1 (one-seater) and NEMO 2 (two-seater) submersibles have begun. The submarines are the only private production-built submarines in the world. The miniature NEMO submarine measures five feet tall, less than eight feet wide, and nine feet long. They are the lightest manned submersibles available, moved and housed with ease.

The NEMO crafts operate for up to eight hours at speeds of 3 knots with the capability of diving up to 100 meters. The interior boasts in-cabin speakers, a transparent domed cockpit, and a bevy of upgrades. One notable add-on is a robotic arm for catching objects, or you can opt for sonar systems. U-Boat Worx Founder and Chairman Bert Houtman wrote about the design. He stated: “We set out on a mission to introduce safe and effortless access to the underwater world to as many people as possible. With the NEMO pricing revolution, we’re now taking the next step in this journey with the aim of having 1,000 submarines in operation by 2030.”

The NEMO 1 and 2 will can be yours for $545,000 and $590,000 USD, respectively. Take a closer look at the submersibles in the images below and find out more details from U-Boat Worx. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more unique ways of seeing the world.
