The one and only, Ken Block is back. The legendary rally driver and DC Shoes co-founder is back with another installment of his Gymkhana video series. This time around, Mr. Block drops off ‘Climbkhana TWO: Tianmen Mountain.’ While his Gymkhana clips find the madman hitting blistering speeds as he hurtles through tiny streets around the globe. His Climbkhana is a bit different. This time around, Ken takes to the intense curves of the deadly Tianmen Mountain Highway to showcase his talents.
Hidden deep inside China, the Tianmen Mountain Highway stretches 6.7 miles. Along the way, it goes through mountains, forests, and cliffs with several tight corners that are barely barricaded. The road is located in Zhangjiajie, Hunan Province. Ken opened up about the idea for the video. He stated: “About five years ago, I found a photo on the internet of this crazy road made of multiple switchbacks that actually crossed over itself.” Block added: “Before I even discovered where in the world it was, I knew we had to go film there. As we did more research, I realized we may have found the greatest road ever. It’s like a European tarmac rally stage – but turned up to 11.”
Ken took his Hoonitruck overseas and did the damn thing. He effortlessly hurled the truck through the deadly twists, turns, and dives. However, he flawlessly keeps the massive automobile on track and under control. Block went on to say, “The juxtaposition of this massive American pickup truck and that tiny road was just too perfect, even if it made it way harder and sketchier to for me to drive.”
