Updates & Upgrades | EDWIN Relaunches Ethical Lines & New Creative Director

The Japanese heritage denim brand EDWIN has brought together a landmark partnership to relaunch the label in the United States. The imprint was founded in Japan 59 years ago, establishing itself as a pioneer in men’s and women’s denim manufacturing. Honoring its heritage while adopting the same pioneering spirit to propel denim manufacturing into new frontiers. EDWIN combines thoughtfully designed jeans and innovation in sustainable manufacturing methods. The brand is responsibly made at SAITEX, the world’s cleanest denim factory.

To launch the brand in the U.S., EDWIN USA has welcomed Catherine Ryu as Creative Director and Kathy Kweon as President. Ryu and Kweon have worked with iconic denim brands for decades, with Ryu having most recently served as Creative Director of Citizens of Humanity for 5 years. Catherine Ryu, Creative Director at EDWIN USA, spoke about the news. He stated: “The denim industry uses a huge amount of water and energy. It’s been great to build the EDWIN brand from scratch to build the ethos of sustainability and ethical manufacturing practices from the foundation of design to our manufacturing process. It’s been a dream to exclusively partner with SAITEX.

Together we are redefining the denim business with an emphasis on people and the planet.” The launch sees two lines within the brand being born: EDWIN Essentials for your everyday denim, and Vintage for more fashion-forward styles and silhouettes. These collections focus on clean, modern silhouettes and vibrant, wearable colors across thoughtfully designed men’s and women’s denim.
