Updates x Upgrades | DIY Augmented Reality Filters On Instagram

The creative minds behind Instagram are always looking for new ways to keep us engaged. Through updates and upgrades, the social media platform provides a bevy of new ways to share content with the world. In an effort to add more depth to the user experience, Instagram returns with some interesting news. We’re all used to, and using, Instagram Story filters. We all have our favorites, but IG is good about adding more options.

Today Instagram is back, this time as Spark AR Studios beta has become available. The project is available for both Mac and PC and allows users to create their own original 3D face filters. It features tools for importing objects sounds, synch movements and allows you to publish your filters on Instagram. Though the program does involve coding, the Learning Centre available features tutorials to help.

These include tutorials on how to animate 3D objects, scripting basics, debugging, and more. Instagram is also going to launch a new Effect Gallery to showcase AR effects from friends and creators. Users can able to browse effects and try them out by tapping on the effect name. For more information on how to get into the action, check out Spark AR on Facebook’s website.

What are you waiting for? Get busy crafting your own IG Story filter now and share it with us when it’s ready! Keep it locked for more on this and be sure to follow The Culture Curators on Instagram while you’re at it.
