It’s hard to believe that the decade is coming to a close. 2020 is on the horizon, and today we take a look back at the music from the past decade. The good folks over at all Billboard have compiled a list, taking a look at the 100 Greatest Albums of the 2010s. The magazine’s staff put together a comprehensive list of albums that include everyone from Bruno Mars to David Bowie, and many more.
Kanye West’s 2010 album My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy lands at No. 1. Billboard writes: “MBDTF is the sound of an artist — using the studio as a palette — grappling with his contradictions, unhappiness and the carnal diversions he turns to as an all-too-brief balm for the uncertain soul.” Beyoncé’s Lemonade earns the runner-up spot. The magazine added, “From accusatory opener ‘Pray You Catch Me’ to the rallying call of ‘Formation,’ a fearless Beyoncé revealed her mastery of weaving together multiple genres and insightful lyrics.”
Frank Ocean’s album Channel Orange came in at no. 3, followed by Kendrick Lamar’s To Pimp a Butterfly. Rihanna’s Anti also made the cut, coming in at no. 7, while Ariana Grande’s Thank U Next at No. 8. The top 20 features modern classics and an array of exceptional showcases of sound. Elsewhere on the top 100, Mac Miller’s Swimming earns a place at No. 70, along with Nipsey Hussle’s Victory Lap at No. 94.
