Last year, Stadium Goods and Christie’s link up for a rather successful collaborative auction. Today the two have aligned for another auction, this one serving as the largest online sneaker auction ever held at Christie’s. Entitled “Original Air Takes Flight: The Evolution and Influence of Air Jordan Sneakers,” the collection includes a selection of 90 sneakers.
Rare, iconic, eye-catching, and incredibly hard to find, the auction block includes early samples, a complete set of Original Air Jordans 1-14, game-worn sneakers, and Jordan-related articles. The auction pays tribute to the legacy of Jordan, offering a historic selection of footwear and memorabilia. The collection includes “Original Air Part II,” a selection of early development prototypes and sample pairs.
Highlights include a one-of-a-kind 1985/86 Air Jordan 2 development sample and a salesman’s sample of the Air Jordan 1 High “Bred.” The Air Jordan 2 is likely one of the first iterations of the silhouette and is considered as the only existing sample. There is even an Air Jordan 1 salesman’s sample used by a Nike rep in order to promote the first signature Jordan shoe. The sneaker even comes with a vintage Nike-branded briefcase believed to belong to an early Nike product specialist called “Ekins.”
Other standouts from the auction include collaborations with Eminem and Drake and highly coveted commemorative pairs such as the “Friends and Family” exclusive Air Jordan Kobe 3 + 8 Pack.
Take a closer look at the selection of sneakers in the images and look for the sale to go live on Christie’s official website beginning June 4th. From June 4th to 9, the entire selection will preview at Christie’s New York with additional viewings of select items from June 9th to 30.
