The good folks over at Google are back in the news. This time around, they return to take a unique look back at the year that was. 2020 was challenging for everyone, and today Google returns with a look at the most trending searches in 2020. Google took to their Twitter account and stated: “In times of uncertainty, people seek understanding and meaning,” adding “2020 was a year of deep questioning.” The post went on to say, “as the world searched “why” more than ever, according to Google Trends. Explore more trends from the year at http://google.com/yearinsearch.”
Some of the most popular searches in 2020 include “Coronavirus,” “WAP,” “Travis Scott” and “Joe Biden.” Other trending searches included “2020 presidential election,” “Kobe Bryant,” and “Zoom.” Google also organized specific trends into categories. For instance, actors like Chadwick Boseman, Tom Hanks, Joaquin Phoenix, and Jada Pinkett Smith were among some of the names that ranked at the top in “Actors.” Cardi B and Megan The Stallion’s single “WAP” placed at the top in the lyrics category. Elsewhere “Shakira” and “Grimes” took top placements in “Musicians and Bands.”
