In case you didn’t know, last night was the 2019 MTV VMAs. While the event showcased the past year in music and music videos, Missy Elliott was the one who stole the show. Missy Elliott was honored with the 2019 Video Vanguard Award. However, before accepting the award, Missy took us a ride back in time. She took to the stage to hit us with a medley of her catalog of infectious singles.
After kicking things off with her ICONOLOGY single “Throw It Back,” Missy took a deep dive into her hits. The MC, songwriter, and more put together a medley that included “The Rain (Supa Dupa Fly),” “Get Ur Freak On,” “Work It,” and so many more. She also performed “Pass That Dutch,” and “Lose Control,” which got the whole venue on their feet.
Missy turned the 2019 MTV VMAs into a party and gave another trademark performance in the process. She then gave a heartfelt acceptance speech, thanking the fans and the folks who helped her throughout her career. She was also honored by her peers and some of her biggest collaborators. Timberland, Justin Timberlake and others spoke fondly about Missy and her influence before the performance as well.
