Place Your Bids! Christie’s To Auction Off Impressionist Art Collection

The good folks over at Christie’s are back in the news. This time around, they return with some big news regarding an upcoming auction of impressionist art. Christie’s is gearing up to auction off the Impressionist art collection by the late Texas oil tycoon Edwin L. Cox. Many of the artworks have not been seen in public since before the Second World War, all collected over the last half-century.

A few notable selections from the collection include Vincent van Gogh’s Cabanes de bois parmi les oliviers et cyprès and Paul Cézanne’s L’Estaque aux toits rouges. Mr. Cox was an entrepreneur, an oil tycoon, and a supporter of cultural institutions. The Cox School of Business at Southern Methodist University is named in his honor, thanks in part to his generous patronage in the city.

Adrien Meyer, Christie‘s global head of private sales, spoke about the collection and the works coming to market. Meyer stated: “Perhaps one of the finest collections of Impressionist art to ever come to auction, the Cox collection will be remembered as a milestone in the art market.” The collection is estimated to bring in over $200m USD when it hits auction in November.

Head over to Christie’s to find out more about the collection and the auction right now. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more from the art department coming very soon.
