Takashi Murakami “An Arrow through History” Exhibition

The one and only Takashi Murakami is back in the news feed. The artist is the focus of a new exhibition at Gagosian, NY. The gallery is paying homage to the artist, his continuing traditional art practice, and his ventures into crypto art. Today we get a look at a new exhibition called “An Arrow through History.” The exhibition takes place in two of Gagosian’s NY galleries at 976 and 980 Madison Avenue.

The third presentation is a virtual one that is available online at Gagosian’s website. The artist shows off his contemporary art style, which doesn’t rely on traditional or physical constraints. The exhibition marks the artist’s first since 2014 with paintings, portraits, and other Superflat pieces. His CloneX avatars and NFT-related elements inspired the art collection, including his anticipated Murakami.Flowers NFT collection.

Murakami released a statement that reads: “When I work on a creative production, I make no distinction between digital and analog. I’m always working in the context of contemporary art, and that context is all about whether I can be involved in events that manage to trigger a cognitive revolution.”

The gallery spoke about the exhibition as well, stating: “The artist’s newest interpretation of his iconic flower motif, Murakami.Flowers combines his influential Superflat aesthetic with a style that evokes nostalgia for the pixelated graphics of 1980s video games, especially those played on the Nintendo Famicon console.” Highlights of the showcase include works inspired by an Ancient Yuan Dynasty Vase. Gagosian will also translate the digitally modeled NFTs into meticulously detailed, hand-painted portraits and full-scale figurative sculptures.

“An Arrow through History” runs from May 11th to June 25th, just ahead of a special exhibition dedicated to Murakami at the Broad in Los Angeles. Gagosian has also announced that the gallery now accepts cryptocurrency through a partnership with Coinbase. Head over to Gagosian’s website for more information and keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more art news, exhibitions, and art drops coming soon.
