Common – ‘A Beautiful Revolution, pt.1’

Chicago’s very own, Common is back. The wordsmith made his return this past Friday, unleashing a brand new album for our listening pleasures. The new album is the wordsmith’s thirteenth studio effort, this one entitled ‘A Beautiful Revolution, pt.1.’ The new album arrives after his last album, ‘Let Love,’ and it comes at an important time. The project was released with a goal to “uplift, heal, and inspire listeners dealing with racial injustices as well as other social injustices.”

Common spoke about the project and the meaning of the album. The Chi-Town representative stated: “A Beautiful Revolution, Pt. 1 is affirmation. It’s recognition. It’s elevation. It’s music to go with a movement. Because the truth is, there is still so much work to do.” He went on to add, “Regardless of the outcome of the election, we need to make sure things do not return to the status quo. The intention of the music is to channel all of our pain and outrage into something productive, inspirational, and good. It’s to help lead a movement into our next phase of the work to be done.”

The project is led by the single “Say Peace” featuring Black Thought. The album includes seven new tracks with features from the likes of PJ, Robert Glasper, Karriem Riggins, Burniss Travis, Isaiah Sharkey, and Lenny Kravitz. Common puts together a solid new album, something soulful, beautiful, and refreshing. This is certainly one we wouldn’t suggest sleeping on.
