Barack Obama served two terms as the 44th President of the United States. Outside of his work in office, the iconic former President displayed a deep passion for basketball. As a gift to celebrate his love for the sport, Nike created him his own pair of Hyperdunk PEs. The deadstock 1-of-2 pair has now been listed via Sotheby’s for $25,000 USD.
The sneaker comes rocking the country’s colors of red, white, and blue with a look similar to the 2008 USA team’s “United We Rise” colorway. The sneaker is adorned with white leather panels that line the collars, throat, and toe boxes. Elsewhere we see mesh forming the tongue and sidewalls, which are set under a translucent film. Darker hues of navy are found on the Swooshes, midsole molds, and heel counters, including Nike lettering.
What really makes the kicks stand out are the patriotic-inspired elements. The tongue logos feature the Presidential Seal, while the medial side’s forefoot features an embroidered “44.” The insoles are finished off with bald eagle graphics alongside “1776”, which pays homage to America’s founding year.
