Over the years, the one and only J. Period has supplied us with a bevy of outstanding mixtapes. He’s made a name for himself by putting together incredible “Best of” compilation projects from some of the culture’s most influential representatives. From Nas and Q-Tip to James Brown and more, he’s back with another. This time around, the Brooklyn-based DJ serves up a spotlight on Lauryn Hill.
‘The Best Of Lauryn Hill’ is a two-part project that comes as “Fire” and “Water.” The mixtape celebrates the versatility of Lauryn’s catalog as well as her legacy. J. Period spoke about the project and about his love for Ms. Hill. He stated: “As a fan, the impact of hearing Hill’s verses back to back is undeniable—you can’t listen and not count her among the greatest MC’s to ever touch a mic.” He went on to add, “As a DJ, the blueprint created by this collection sparked countless collaborations for me that continue to this day: Q-Tip, Mary J. Blige, John Legend, Black Thought, and The Roots.”
The project includes a bevy of excellent material that serves as a fitting ode to one of the most incredible artists of our time.
