SpaceX’s Crew-1 astronauts are back in the news. According to the good folks over at NASA, the crew has set a new record for spending the longest time in space by a crew launched on a U.S. spacecraft. The latest milestone surpassed the previous record of 84 days set by the Skylab 4 crew in 1974. Crew-1 astronauts Michael Hopkins, Shannon Walker, Victor Glover, and Soichi Noguchi took over from Kennedy Space Center over two months ago.
Not only a record-breaking mission, but it’s also the first operational mission launched from the U.S. since 2011. Crew-1 is expected to stay on the station for at least six months in total. This means that the record will be extending by a wide margin. This is certainly big news, and it arrives before SpaceX’s next mission in April, when Crew-2 will replace the Crew-1 astronauts.
