Light & Art! Tate Modern’s “Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirror Rooms” Exhibition

A year ago, London’s Tate Modern was supposed to open a new exhibition of work by Yayoi Kusama. However, the COVID-19 pandemic brought things to a halt. Finally, the exhibition is being put on display as galleries and museums are allowed to reopen. “Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirror Rooms” focuses on two large-scale installations by the Japanese artist.

The two Infinity Mirror Rooms featured include one of Kusama’s largest installations, created for her 2012 retrospective at Tate Modern. The other features an endlessly repeating series of rotating chandeliers. Dubbed Infinity Mirrored Room – Filled with the Brilliance of Life and the Chandelier of Grief, a new work also accompanies the installations.

The Universe, as Seen from the Stairway to Heaven, uses mirrors and a colorful dot pattern to immerse visitors. This creates a “peep-in” sculpture that expands on the Infinity Mirror Rooms. The exhibition also features a display of film and photography that gives context for the installations and shows how they were created. “Yayoi Kusama: Infinity Mirror Rooms” is open now at Tate Modern and will be on display until June 12, 2022.

Head over to Tate Modern’s site and pick up tickets asap. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more art news, exhibitions, and art drops coming soon.
