After having a tumultuous few weeks and taking her frustrations to social media, Nicki Minaj is back with some new music. She returns with something new for our listening enjoyment, though saying she “retired” a few months back. Regardless, we’re always down for some new Nicki, and today she provides with something contagious called “Yikes.” The track actually serves as a “warm-up” rather than an official single to her upcoming fifth album.
The track finds Nicki showing off her lyrical prowess over top of a menacing instrumental, excelling as expected. Say what you want, but you can’t say Ms. Minaj doesn’t have bars. “Yikes” is pushed by this simple, almost haunting synth piano, which is paired with these rattling percussion elements and some street shaking bass. The combination provides the wordsmith with a nice home to do her thing, and she doesn’t fall short in her delivery. This is certainly one worth checking out and one worth adding to your listening selection.
