Streaming Overtakes Cable As Most-Watched Platform

For the first time in history, streaming is watched more than cable TV. The news came down recently that July 2022 marked streaming’s fifth consecutive high in its share of TV usage. The information comes from Nielsen’s monthly Gauge platform rankings. Streaming usage has increased monthly since March.

July’s high was assisted by Netflix’s Stranger Things, which garnered 18 billion minutes of viewing time for the month. Other notable titles included The Umbrella Academy and The Boys. Cable and broadcast hit their lowest points in 14 months. Cable is down nearly 9% from last year, while broadcast networks have dropped by 10%.

Netflix led all the streaming services by making up 8% of TV use. YouTube came in second with 7.3%, followed by Hulu, Amazon Prime Video, Disney+, and HBO Max. Find out more from Neilsen and keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more entertainment news coming very soon.
