It’s been far too long since we got some new music from Kelis. That all changes today as the songstress returns with something new, smooth, and quite contagious. After leaving music behind and becoming a Le Cordon Bleu-trained chef, Kelis dives back into the musical world with her first single since 2014. The single is titled “Midnight Snacks,” and Kelis doesn’t disappoint. The songstress shows off her vocal prowess and smooth delivery, putting together another solid example of her abilities and range.
She also opened up about the track and how it all came together. Kelis stated: “Somebody recently told [me that I] was always talking about food in my songs. I was like, ‘do I?’” She went on to add, “I mean; obviously, I do. It isn’t intentional, but the idea is just that food is a very carnal thing. Everyone can relate to it. It’s very human; it’s sensual; it’s something that you crave. And it’s sexy.” The track is pushed by these highly contagious melodic elements while paired seamlessly with some slick drum work. The combination provides Kelis with an incredible home to excel, and she certainly doesn’t fall short in her delivery.
