For those of you who haven’t gotten familiar with Nikki Jean, don’t worry, we won’t hold it against you. It’s been nearly five years since we got a new project from Nikki, but that all changes today. The songstress started her career as the lead singer of Nouveau Riche. However, she first caught her break with contributions to Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool. Nikki was born and raised in St. Paul, Minnesota, and has linked up with Rhymesayers Ent. to release her latest project. Nikki Jean returns with a contagious new EP for our listening enjoyment called ‘Beautiful Prison.’
The new EP comes loaded up with seven exceptional new tracks, including “Pink Lemonade.” Nikki shows off her talents behind the mic, showing off her range and talents in the process. The artist recently spoke about the EP, opening up about her career in the process. Nikki stated: “Things are frequently not what they appear. When I see this picture (above), I see the scar fading on my throat. Remembering how things looked beautiful from the outside, but my body was literally choking me”. She went on to add “Tumors wrapped around my vocal nerves. I am so grateful to have found my voice both figuratively and literally. grateful for the many beautiful prisons, situations, relationships, states of mind that have taught me the true meaning of freedom, and that it’s always available to us.” The ‘Beautiful Prison’ EP also includes a feature from Lupe Fiasco, on a single entitled “Mr. Clean.”
