Rare Rides! 1970 Ford Torino Twister Special

The good folks over at Ford are known for crafting limited and special edition models for the American public. However, they are also known for producing local variants, including the High Country and California-spec Mustangs. Back in the day, Ford created something special for its Kansas City dealer network to promote the Mach 1 Mustang. Today we get a look at a 1970 Ford Torino Twister Special. The Twister Special was sold as a promotion behind the Mach 1s, and only 90 were created.

This stunning machine is powered by a Rochester 4-barrel carb-fed 429ci Cobra Jet V8 engine. The vehicle came rocking a bevy of upgrades over the base model, including custom color-keyed racing mirrors, Firestone Wide Oval “polyglas” tires, and more. The Torino Twister Special even features rear-window Sport Slats, front and rear spoilers, and a race livery based on that of the Mustang TS. Of the 90 created, only 30 were built with a four-speed manual transmission.

This particular Torino TS has been restored to its original factory spec, offering the opportunity to own something rare and iconic. The ride is slated to hit the auction block at Mecum’s upcoming Kissimmee auction in early January. The vehicle is part of the Larry Carrell Collection, and it’s expected to bring in between $200,000 to $250,000.
