Rides Reviewed | This Is The 2020 Mazda Mazda3 Sedan AWD

Through the years, we have seen a steady range of updates and upgrades from Mazda. Their fleet of vehicles has changed rather well with times, adapting in terms of aesthetics, technology, and performance. This can be seen across the whole line of vehicles from the MX-5 to their fleet of SUVs, including the CX-9’s. We recently got behind the wheel of one of Mazda’s flagship models, the 2020 Mazda Mazda3 Sedan AWD. This car has undergone some major changes over the past few years, especially to its look and feel. This isn’t your typical Mazda3 as the automaker has elevated the car to a whole new level.

First, let’s start with what we see first. The new Mazda3 is the first production model to adopt Mazda’s evolved version of Kodo design. The ride features a simple “single motion” to its form, though boasting a dramatic expression in the process. This is seen in both the sedan and hatchback models, providing a sleek and stylish approach in the process. Mazda has provided the Mazda3 with a modern update that can be seen from bumper to bumper. A sleek front end lends itself nicely into the cabin area, stretching to a beautifully designed rear section that seamlessly comes together. Not only easy on the eyes, but it’s also easy everywhere else as well. Mazda has certainly elevated the Mazda3, providing outstanding quality and attention to detail throughout.

The All-New Mazda3

Now to where we spend most of our time as drivers, the interior. Mazda’s goal was to strengthen the connection between the car and the driver. They did so by designing the cockpit with perfect horizontal symmetry with the driver in the center. The cockpit and cabin were carefully designed to provide all drivers with confidence-inspiring ease of operation. We find Mazda’s CONNECT infotainment system inside, rocking an 8.8-inch large center display in the process. This gives easy control over everything from the audio to navigation, as well as vehicle settings and more.

The 8-speaker sound system features full range door-mounted type & tweeter speakers. There is also Bluetooth hands-free phone and audio streaming, USB audio input, as well as Android Auto and Apple Carplay options. In terms of safety and technology, the Mazda3 includes Mazda Proactive Safety. This provides the driver confidence-building reassurance and a range of basic safety technologies. The vehicle is host to advanced dual front airbags, front side-impact airbags, and side-impact air curtains. There are also child-safety rear door locks & LATCH rear-seat child safety-seat lower anchors & upper tethers. Dynamic Stability Control and Traction Control System adds another level of safety, while the Lane-departure warning and Smart Brake Support are a nice touch as well.

While the Mazda3 has never been as a sports car, it’s powerful enough to get you where you need to go. Power comes from a powerful 2.5L SKYACTIV-G, which is standard across the lineup. Peppy and functional, the engine provides responsive speed control in any driving situation. The 2.5L SKYACTIV-G comes with 186 HP and 155 lb-ft torque, which is plenty for either the sedan or hatchback models. It’s also quite economical on fuel, with a fuel rating of 27/36/30 MPG for the Front-Wheel-Drive, and 25/33/28 MPG for the All-Wheel-Drive iteration. While it may not be the most powerful car on the road, it’s incredibly effective, reliable, and dependable, which says a lot these days.
