In case you couldn’t tell, we have quite a soft spot for stunning architecture. Today we take a trip to Hawaii for an architectural tribute to the Big Island. Dubbed Hale Mau’u, this beautiful vacation home is something unique and special. The house is an homage to Hawaii’s big island, designed by Walker Warner Architects. The home is set against a volcanic backdrop of black lava rock, golden grasses, and Kiawe trees.
The structure features four volumes that are seamlessly situated in the native landscape and arranged to create a central courtyard. The spaces are connected by a timber boardwalk running from the mountains to the ocean. The buildings are accented by sliding barn doors that open up and connect to the outdoor living spaces. When open, these spaces feature unrivaled views of the mountain peaks on one side and the Pacific Ocean on the other. When closed, the screens provide ample shade and an ethereal glowing effect at night.
