Art With Purpose | Black Lives Matter Street Mural in Brooklyn

This past weekend on Fulton Street in Brooklyn, New York City a new mural arrived. A massive Black Lives Matter mural was painted on the street, spanning 375 feet long. The artwork can be seen just outside of the Billie Holiday Theatre in Restoration Plaza. Similar in design to the one that went up in Washington D.C. near the White House, the mural features bright yellow lettering.

The project was a collaborative effort between the Billie Holiday Theatre and Councilman Robert Cornegy Jr. Mayor de Blasio announced on Monday that traffic will be banned from the Brooklyn block where the mural found. The mayor went on to note that the restrictions are an attempt to make it easier for New Yorkers to continue anti-police brutality demonstrations.

The traffic ban isn’t set to be lifted until the end of Summer. No specific end date has been confirmed. Check out the new mural in the video below and look for more from the intersection of lifestyle and culture coming soon!
