Following the opening of the Croydon store in London, Banksy is now launching an online shop. The British artist has launched his first-ever line of homewares, dubbed Gross Domestic Product™. The homewares come in the form of mugs and rugs, as well as one-off pieces such as the ‘bullet-proof vest’ worn by Stormzy at Glastonbury festival.
The artist created the Gross Domestic Product™ following a legal battle last year with a greeting card company. The company attempted to seize legal custody of the name “Banksy” to sell merch. The new site features a diverse selection of “art, homewares, and disappointment”. The artist claimed to have “price fixed the first releases for lower-income patrons.” He added, “wealthy art collectors are requested to refrain from shopping at the current time.”
The prices range from approximately $12 USD, while signed original prints begin at around $643 USD. For those looking to purchase a product will need to register their personal details. As well as going through steps to “prove you are not a robot” by answering the question “Does art matter?” Comedian Adam Bloom will judge the responses.
Check out the official Gross Domestic Product™ online shop here and try your hand at purchasing one of the one-off pieces immediately. In the meantime, keep it locked to The Culture Curators for more art and art culture coming soon.
