New Look! New Balance Revamps The All-Gray Suede 996

The good folks over at New Balance have arrived with another new iteration of the iconic 996. The silhouette made its debut in 1988 and has become one of the imprint’s most iconic designs. The sneaker returns with a new update that rocks vintage appeal. The latest entry to the 996 family of footwear features a gray suede build which is paired with traditional footwear design details.

The most obvious is the kiltie, which is the fringed covering that is attached to the laces, hanging from the top of the tongue. Kilties are seen on formal footwear, though they now offer a formal touch to a classic sneaker. The rest of the upper features perforated decorations on the toe box and heel stripe, inspired by a pair of old-school brogues. Elsewhere the silhouette is adorned with a gray mesh tongue and toe box, while branding on the tongue is crafted from the same suede as the uppers. “NB” is detailed on the heel, while more branding is seen on the heel. The latest 996 is finished off with TPU counter support and ENCAP midsole technology.
