The largest fancy black diamond in the world is currently up for sale. If you are interested in the 555.55-carat gem, you are in luck. The Enigma is a rare carbonado diamond, usually found in Brazil or the Central African Republic. The carbonado diamond is thought to be formed by interstellar gasses and minerals found in meteors and was first bought in the late 1990s.
The gem began at over 800 carats and took over three years to complete. The striking diamond now features 55 facets and is shaped like a Middle Eastern palm symbol, the Hamsa. The word is, the design is said to deflect against the evil eye. The Enigma was recently auctioned off by Sotheby’s, who accepted a variety of cryptocurrencies, including BTC, ETH, and USD Coin.
Take a closer look at this remarkable gem in the image up top and find out more about the diamond from Sotheby’s right now. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more lifestyle news coming very soon.
