When we think of a home in the mountains, we typically think of cabins. We think cozy, old school designs, classic, functional, and unique. Today we get a look at a home in the mountains that changes all of those preconceived notions. The Alpine Terrace House is located in New Zealand’s southern alps. This stunning home is situated in a way to provide the best mountain views to the occupants while offering a modern retreat. The dwelling is comprised of four black rectangles arranged around a central courtyard. The volumes are set on a concrete plinth, which provides a unique look.
It appears as if the low-lying volumes are floating above the sloped terrain. This shadowy approach continues inside, where dark tile floors and charcoal walls create a unique vibe. A minimalist aesthetic is seen throughout, while a dim palette pushes the focus toward the rugged scenery. Floor-to-ceiling windows around the perimeter frame the exceptional views. This glazing can also be opened to expand the living spaces while offering a refreshing dose of mountain air. This modern home is nothing short of stunning. It’s beautiful and spacious, while the views alone are something to behold.
