The sisters of HAIM are back, and they return with some brand new music! If you are anything like us, you’ve become quite a fan of HAIM. Their incredibly catchy material, their infectious harmonizing and their undeniable ability to create amazing music. The trio returns today with a brand new single called “Summer Girl.”
The track arrives at a perfect time, though it was created at a rather uncertain time. Back in 2017 during the making of Haim’s 2017 album Something to Tell You, the band’s producer and Danielle Haim’s romantic partner, Ariel Rechtshaid was diagnosed with testicular cancer. The track was written at a tough time, and Danielle opened up about it recently. She stated: “I was on tour and felt like I was trying to send positive energy his way almost telepathically,” adding “Whenever I would come home in between shows I wanted to be his sunshine—his summer when he was feeling dark.”
“Summer Girl” was produced by Rostam and Rechtshaid himself. The track was influenced heavily by Lou Reed’s “Walk on the Wild Side.” Driven by a jazzier sound than their previous singles. The track is pushed by an upright bass while Danielle shows off her vocal prowess and her effortless delivery. The bridge reveals the fear and uncertainty that came with Rechtshaid’s diagnosis, the singer/songwriter keeps things eerily calm in the process.
Danielle sings: “You walk beside me, not behind me/Feel my unconditional love.” The track is just the latest from HAIM. Though we hope its the beginning of more new material on the horizon.
