Speed On The Screen | James Bond’s 1965 Aston Martin From ‘Goldfinger’

For anyone looking to live the life of 007, here is your chance. Soon The Aston Martin DB5 from ‘Goldfinger’ will hit the auction block, offering you the opportunity to own the most iconic car in movie history. James Bond’s 1965 Aston Martin DB5 is set to be auctioned off by RM/Sotheby’s as part of Monterey Car Week. The grand tourer is chassis number DB5/2008/R, just one of four DB5’s that were made for Eon Productions for use in filming and promoting the third and fourth Sean Connery-starring Bond films.

The car has been owned by just three private owners, including famed collector Lord Bamford. The vehicle is described as a “pristine example” of “the most famous car in the world,” by the auction house. For anyone who’s seen the film’s, the car comes outfitted with an array of working gadgets built for Agent 007 by Q. The car was initially designed by Ken Adam and built by two-time Oscar winner John Stears. The gadgets include hydraulic battering rams on the front and rear bumpers, a .30-caliber machine gun in each fender, wheel-mounted tire slashers, a retractable bulletproof screen, an in-dash radar-tracking scope, caltrop launchers, smoke-screen dispensers, revolving license plates, and a passenger-seat ejection system.

It was first purchased by Lord Bamford in 1969, four years after the release of Thunderball before being acquired by the owner of the Smokey Mountain Car Museum in Tennessee the next year. In 2006 it was sold again then completely restored by Roos Engineering, bringing the car and its gadgets back to working order.
