Widely considered to be one of the most significant artists of the 20th century, Jean-Michel Basquiat is renowned for his raw, spontaneous style, use of urban imagery, poetical-political graffiti, bold sense of color and composition. When Herschel Supply announced the Basquiat Collection for Fall 2019, it was widely considered a perfect match for the Vancouver based lifestyle brand. To commentate the legacy of the Neo-Expressionist prodigy, a curated selection of signature Herschel Supply styles are being adorned with images of three different iconic works by Basquiat.
Basquiat’s vibrant-hued Untitled (Scull/Skull) painting is used on a range of classic pieces including the Classic XL Backpack, Nova Mid-Volume backpack, Novel Duffle, Cruz Crossbody, Ninteen Hip pack, Chapter travel kits, multiple wallets, and a cardholder. A tonal black striped fabric liner and a Herschel Supply classic woven label is embroidered with the signature 3 point crown wrap up the finishes for the bags. The immersive print is also applied to the men’s and women’s Coach’s jackets and short-sleeved Tees as well as headwear options like the Mosby Curve cap and the Cooperman Bucket hat.
Now’s the Time, a painting depicting a 45 of Charlie Parker’s classic bebop composition, is featured on the versatile daypack and long tote made from 100% enzyme-washed cotton canvas. Simple cotton webbing shoulder straps and carry handles compliment the simplicity. Both styles are available in Black, Ash Rose, and Dark Olive and detailed with a tonal classic woven label and embroidered Basquiat Crown logo. The vinyl record screen print is also utilized for the Mac jacket and classic raincoat for both men and women.
The Basquiat City pack features an all-over screen print of Basquiat’s Per Capita. Constructed from lightweight rip-stop fabric with lavish black seatbelt webbing, the HS6 backpack, HS7 tote, HS8 crossbody, and the HS9 hip pack are full of functional design elements like coated mesh pockets and laptop sleeves, exposed oversized plastic zippers and a relaxed structure. The silhouettes are finished with an injection-molded Herschel Supply Studios logo.
