A Weekend Retreat | Straume Weekend House

We all dream of a beautiful, unique, and secluded retreat that we can use as an escape from reality. Today we get a look at a beautiful modern home that is precisely that; the Straume Weekend House. The structure is a perfect escape from the hectic, busy schedules that reality fills our daily lives with. Discreet and secluded, yet modern and comfortable, it’s a beautiful design with exceptional attention to detail throughout. This home replaced an old deserted warehouse that was washed away in a storm.

The structure is a timber-clad home situated on a rocky outcropping on the coast of Remøya in Norway. The house shares the same footprint as the original, constructed entirely off-site. The home consists of seven steel frames while wooden shutters open the home to the exterior. However, when closed, the building features an unassuming aesthetic that fits in with its surroundings. The coverings slide open when the home is in use, revealing glazed panels and exposing fjord views in the process. The interior is warm and welcoming, providing brilliant attention to detail and great use of space.

Take a closer look at the Straume Weekend House in the images below and find out more about the structure from Knut Hjeltnes. Keep it locked with us here at The Culture Curators for more outstanding modern architecture.
