Tonight is the night! Art literally comes to life tonight at the Appleton Museum of Art in Ocala, Florida, with Applaud The Arts 2019. This local event has been presented by the Marion Cultural Alliance for over a decade, originally dubbed Saluting the Arts. In 2016 the event was renamed Applaud the Arts to celebrate and support local artistic talents of all genres.
MCA began with Horse Fever in 2001 and has continued each year since, support local talent with public art, a gallery, advocacy, and funding. This includes Cultural Grants totaling $310,000. The event is for fans of art and for anyone looking to get involved with the art community.
Art creates beauty in our city and connects the people. It also improves education through encouraging creativity, problem-solving, and more. Art can also attract tourism revenue. Applaud the Arts 2019 takes place tonight. Guests will enjoy delicious tapas, cocktails, interactive art experiences, and music by DJ Big Bert. The MCA has given over $310,000 to local arts organizations in Marion County, and proceeds from Applaud the Arts will help raise that amount.
I will become a living canvas at the event, as I will get a tattoo for the duration of the evening. The tattoo is inspired and influenced by a piece of art that is part of the Appleton’s permanent collection. Local tattoo artist Dave Sedano will be showcasing his talents, while a collection of other incredible artists will be on hand to showcase their crafts as well.
