Kara Joslyn Opens “This Is Hardcore” at Perrotin

Los Angeles-based artist Kara Joslyn is an emerging artist who provides a monochromatic aesthetic that blends hidden truths and kinetic energy. The artist has opened her first solo exhibition in New York, presenting “This Is Hardcore” at Perrotin. Each painting in the showcase features a number of symbolic elements that are conjoined together. The mythic display is contrasted sharply with black backgrounds from a combination of acrylic and polymer automotive paint.

The artist recently stated: “If photography is the false index — the truth that tells a lie,” adding, “I like to think of painting as the trick — the lie that tells the truth.” She explores the gaps between the material world and dream-like aspects. The new body of work features exceptional attention to detail and incredible depth. Perrotin’s Ryan Maggione writes, “with the kinetic energy of American underground subcultures, blending the sheen of rave culture and the impulse of hardcore punk into a system of timeless, or out of time, iconography.”

Check out the stunning showcase in the images and head over to Perrotin to find out more about the exhibition right now. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more outstanding art exhibitions, releases, and more art news coming soon.
