Modern Yet Traditional | The Chuckanut Farmhouse

Situated overlooking the Samish Bay in Washington is a striking modern structure that is sure to inspire. Dubbed the  Chuckanut Farmhouse, this beautiful dwelling was created and brought to life by Hoedemaker Pfeiffer. The family dwelling is found in a small clearing along the foothills of Skagit Valley. The compact size of the lot provides a simple, square footprint for the home. The block form was then cut into two and connected by a glazed breezeway. These unique features allow sunlight to enter the home from all directions.

The volumes were topped with a gabled roofline, adding a traditional approach to a contemporary design. This provides a barn-like appearance while vertical timber cladding and a standing-seam metal roof add to its rustic aesthetic. Another additional challenge was the placement of the garage. The result was to insert a concrete structure into the hillside, creating a space to park with minimal disruption to the natural landscape. Eye-catching and intriguing, this unique design is sure to offer plenty of inspiration for your dream home.

Take a closer look at this beautiful home in the images below and find out more from Hoedemaker Pfeiffer immediately. Be sure to keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more modern architecture and design coming very soon.
