Old Becomes New | The Knowlton House

What started as a classic farmhouse in rural Canada has become something much more. The Knowlton House, as it is known, has undergone quite the renovation. The classic farmhouse has expanded and been renovated into a modest, modern country home. The transformation is quite stunning, providing quite a facelift while keeping all of the charm.

The original gabled structure has been updated, painted with a white facade and a corrugated metal roof. It is extended by a simple form that takes the structure upwards. This provides exceptional views of the area while minimizing disruption to the hilltop site. The extension is clad in cedar, rocking a charred finish that gives it a rustic aesthetic. The weathered appearance fits seamlessly with the backdrop, offering a unique modern vibe in the process. The Knowlton House is nothing short of brilliant, boasting outstanding attention to detail in the process. The home is sprawling, a bold blend of old and new which creates a unique contrast.

Take a closer look at this eye-catching structure in the images below and find out more about the design from Thomas Balaban Architect. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more architectural design coming very soon.
