Facebook is making some changes! The social media giant is always looking for ways to make our experience unique and a bit easier. Now they return with a move that is sure to confuse some. In a move to make their flagship services seem more transparent than before, Facebook is renaming Instagram and WhatsApp. Soon, both apps become “Instagram from Facebook” and “WhatsApp from Facebook.”
This change does not affect any of the functions we know and love, changing nothing about the user experience. It’s merely a cosmetic change, and it will not even alter the app names on the home screens. A spokesperson for Facebook explained the change, noting: “We want to be clearer about the products and services that are part of Facebook.” Facebook’s Workplace app already stylizes both apps this way. You can expect both Instagram and WhatsApp to sport new titles on Apple’s App Store and Google Play.
The Verge also notes that both apps may display a new “From Facebook” splash screen when launched. Though it doesn’t seem like anything within the app will change. This means all of the same features we’ve become used to, all in the same locations. The renaming of their apps is certainly an interesting move, but we doubt the changes will be as confusing as it sounds.
