Yes, we have a soft spot for outstanding, unique, and impeccable modern architecture. We’ve seen some exceptional examples, and today we get a look at another one. Dubbed the Shack in the Rocks, this unique dwelling is located just an hour outside of Melbourne. Designed by Sean Godsell Architects, the Shack in the Rocks sits on a large concrete plinth among natural boulders on a grassy hillside.
The structure was adapted from a simple hay shed, boasting two steel-frame volumes. One is for cooking and eating, while the other is for sleeping. Both of the volumes are connected by a single slanted roof. Transparent panels on the roof’s horizontal slats allow light to flood the space, while fully glazed walls surround interior spaces. This opens the shack up to beautiful views of the Australian scenery. The roof also extends past the structures to create an outdoor living space that overlooks the serene landscape.
This beautifully designed dwelling is undoubtedly a unique escape from reality. Take a closer look at the design in the images and find out more about the shack from Sean Godsell Architects. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more outstanding examples of modern architecture and design.
