Nadia Lee Cohen Reveals ‘HELLO, My Name Is’ Exhibition

Nadia Lee Cohen has become a sought-after artist. In just a decade, the British photographer and filmmaker has directed videos for Kali Uchis and A$AP Rocky, working on campaigns for Gucci, Balenciaga, and Maison Margiela. She recently opened her first solo exhibition in the United States, presenting HELLO, My Name Is at Jeffrey Deitch Los Angeles. The exhibition includes photographs, sculptures, and film displaying work from her monographs Women and a recent book of the same name.

The London-born, Los Angeles-based photographer spoke about the exhibition in a statement. She said, “The world I photograph and create doesn’t reside in the same world that we live in.” Each portrait relates to a character profile she has collected through the years.

Actor Paul Reubens stated: “A lot of thought has gone into the creation of these people…when I look at every one of these portraits, I want to know what drew her to each of these characters.” He added, “You and I can read lots of things into these people, but what does the artist know about them that she’s keeping secret? Besides what she’s shown us, how much more does she know that she’s not telling? What isn’t she giving away?”
