Sure, Summer may be coming to an end, but that doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy one last Summer retreat. Today we get a look at a home that was designed for Summer escapes. Dubbed the Cretan Summer House, the dwelling is situated on a hillside on Greece’s largest island. The stunning home merges with the local topography organically, offering outstanding attention to detail and a modern approach. The Cretan Summer House consists of three volumes that are tucked into the sloping terrain.
The structure blends into the scenery with a natural palette of stone, wood, and plaster. Each building is organized around a central courtyard and staircase, directing views toward the surrounding landscape. The main living spaces are placed at the top, while the steps divide the kitchen and sitting area. The interior then progresses outside to a poolside terrace, while leading down to the bedrooms. The stairway also acts as a natural ventilation chimney.
The hill itself regulates the internal temperature, and the pool absorbs heat. These unique features allow the home to operate without air conditioning. However, there are two solar panels that provide the home with hot water year-round. This stunning structure is a perfect way to escape the madness and relax for Summer; or any time of the year for that matter.
