Leica and Fender have joined with The Police guitarist and avid photographer Andy Summers. The trio has come together to created a limited edition camera and guitar showcasing some of the artist’s best work. The camera comes in the form of an M Monochrom “Signature” model. The device is comes in a leatherette collage of Summers’ black-and-white photos. The camera is then complemented by silver buttons, controls, and dials while the topside of the body features.
The guitarist’s autograph comes emblazoned in an eye-catching red. The collection boasts just 50 units worldwide coming with a Leica Summicron-M f/2 35mm ASPH lens equipped with a vintage lens hood. The guitar-strap-inspired black leather camera strap is a nice touch, while finished off with an Oberweth black leather camera bag highlighted with red stitching. Second, in the collection is a Fender Custom Shop Andy Summers Monochrome Stratocaster. The guitar was built by the brand’s master builder Dennis Galuszka himself.
The guitar comes as a two-piece alder body which boasts Summers’ monochrome photographs taken with his collection of Leica M cameras. The one-piece neck is made from rift-sawn maple and carries a “63 C” profile. The guitar also features 21 medium-vintage frets and a bone nut. The 15th fret comes with a red Leica camera dot inlay.
Summers spoke about the collaboration. He stated: “After all these years of being obsessed with photography and the guitar, I now have the two things together for the first time.” The Andy Summers camera is now available on leicacamerausa.com.
