Creative Craftsmanship! The Lahao Stone Houses

There is something captivating about outstanding architecture. Today we take a look at a beautiful design located in what is described as the most beautiful town in China. The Lahao Stone Houses are located in the ancient village of Fenghuang, built on a mountain and dotted with stone houses. As part of the China Foundation For Poverty Alleviation’s Bona Villa project, United Practice Architects is reviving 12 properties in the sea.

The studio has currently restored six of the Lahao Stone Houses, respecting the traditional craftsmanship while providing minimal damage to the site. The structure’s original stone walls have been rebuilt per the traditional dry-laying method while also boasting raised roofs and a steel structure system. The interior of these stone homes features expansive windows that frame views of the old-growth trees and mountains.

Warm wood covers the floors while fresh, crisp, white walls help create a tranquil aesthetic throughout. The dwellings are connected by a stone pathway, allowing visitors to experience the area and take in the scenery from varying viewpoints. This is an excellent example of old architecture becoming new.

Take a closer look at the Lahao Stone Houses in the images and head over to United Practice Architects to find out more right now. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more exceptional architecture and design coming very soon.
