As an automobile company that’s been setting the standard of luxury for decades, Mercedes Benz just gave us a glimpse into their future. It’s safe to say; they’ll still be setting that same standard for quite some time. Mercedes-Benz has given us an official first look at the EQS, the S-Class “ish” flagship of the fully-electric future. The EQS has been called “a trailblazer for the entire Mercedes-Benz EQ Family”. This means the benchmark has been set for its lineup of electric cars coming out in the years ahead.
Level 3 autonomy has been slated to join the EQS, allowing all aspects of driving to be done for you. In this mode, the driver still needs to be on hand to respond and intervene. However, will also be allowed to let the car control driving functions thanks to its myriad of radars and sensors. While self-driving is pretty rad, around here, we drive. Luckily, the Mercedes Benz EQS has a mode for us too. Mercedes-Benz says, “individual driving pleasure will continue to be desirable in the future”. While offered up in the form of a 470 BHP, 560 lb-ft of torque electric battery-powered engine.

Power will be torque-vectored to both axles for a sportier four-wheel-drive approach, and 0-60 MPH will be achieved in 4.5 seconds. The German manufacturer claims a WLTP-tested range of 400 miles and says the EQS can charge its batteries up to 80% in just 20 minutes. Mercedes Benz has said it intends to make their cars CO2-neutral. The EQS is a step in that direction with artificial leather and fabrics made from recycled PET bottles and ocean waste. While it is made of sea junk, this interior is breathtaking. Think Apple meets Gucci at IKEA in the year 2050. Outside of the car,188 individual LED front end lights make for unprecedented detail in signals. The rear is nearly covered in 229 star-shaped lights to give a clear indicator of anything to the following vehicles.
