Simply Stunning | The OCM House

Modern architecture comes in all sorts of shapes and sizes. While many of us think of contemporary luxury as massive, modern mansions, that is not always the case. Many modern examples of architecture are rooted in the past, drawing inspiration from their environments. We’ve seen plenty of traditional designs, updates, and upgrades, and this example is another one. Today we take a look at a small Australian home that includes a traditional look with a modern aesthetic. The OCM House is a small home that boasts traditional board and batten siding which elevates the design for a new look.

The black fiber cement dwelling uses its mullions to create geometric, grid-like patterns. This makes for a sleek modern approach to the classic facade. Internally the home features natural plywood panels offering a warm contrast to the dark exterior shell. The polished concrete floors add to the minimalist aesthetic. The kitchen features a bold black tile backsplash that mimics the external cladding. The main living area of the home is host to sliding glass doors that expand the interior to a covered timber terrace. From here, views of the property’s lawn and garden are seen, providing a beautiful place to kick back and relax.

Take a look at the OCM House in the images below and stay tuned for more modern architecture coming soon. While we’ve got your attention, check out our architecture section for more modern designs and eye-catching contemporary structures.
