Sure, football season is still a few months away, but we’re all hyped about what lies ahead on the gridiron. adidas and the University of Washington have linked up to unveil the Huskies’ new adidas Primeknit football uniforms for the 2019 season. The new unis were created in partnership with University of Washington Athletics, crafted to blend the school’s storied history with a modern aesthetic. The uniforms will make their on-field debut for the Huskies’ season opener against Eastern Washington later this Summer.
The uniforms feature an “Angle of Pursuit” theme that is inspired by the angles of the university’s legendary “W” logo. Influenced by the classic jersey designs from the famed Coach Don James era, adidas’ designers created an all-new customized numbering system. Todd Rolak, Sr. Design Director for adidas U.S. Sports, spoke about the jersey’s design. He stated: “As we look to the future, we wanted to infuse subtle, yet premium details that would connect the entire University of Washington community. He added, “These creative storytelling elements became the ‘Angle of Pursuit’ direction behind our design, and this new theme highlights the iconic W, what it means to be a Husky athlete and the next chapter of UW football.”
The uniforms pay homage and celebrate the Huskies’ undefeated 1991 Rose Bowl season, bringing back the classic purple and white that dominated the field back in the day. The jerseys are host to three purple stripes located on both sleeve caps of the jersey, accented by an iridescent, dimensional film within the fabric, adding a velvety texture that adds a touch of style. The stripes on either side of the sleeve are open, serving as a reference to the athlete’s never-ending strive for greatness and room for growth. A tonal rain pattern accents twill numbers, another nod to the Pacific Northwest and its infamous weather.
The Primeknit body-mapping design includes a ribbed knit pattern on the chest and shoulder pads for an improved fit. Knit engineered mesh channels with Climacool technology offers enhanced breathability while the inside of the jersey features silicon grip patterns on the shoulders to lock the pads in place. Primeknit details have also been incorporated into the collar, sleeve cuff, and hem for next level comfort and range of motion.
To finish things off, adidas has cooked up some outstanding accessories to match. This includes purple and white adizero 5-Star gloves with an oversized “W” logo on the palms, while the team will wear the adidas adizero and FREAK cleats in team colors.
