Stunning Spirals | The Twist by Bjarke Ingels Group

Many of the examples of modern architecture that we showcase are homes. From vacation homes to structures that come created for everyday life, many of these dwellings are used for living purposes. Today we take a look at modern architecture with a twist; literally. The Twist is a unique and eye-catching design created by Bjarke Ingels and the Bjarke Ingels Group. This unique structure is part of the Kistefos sculpture park in Norway.

The design is another example of BIG’s ability to bring the seemingly impossible to life. They have done so with something functional and quite eye-catching. The Twist is BIG’s first project in Norway, functioning both as a museum and a bridge to span the Randselva river. The bridge connects the two halves of the sculpture garden, providing an intriguing way of doing so in the process. The unique structure features a 90-degree twist near the middle, switching from a horizontal to vertical orientation depending on which one of the sides you enter in.

The Twist offers different aspects depending on where you are. One side features full-height glass windows that offer panoramic views and plenty of natural light; the other side is a darker, taller gallery with artificial lighting. The middle is host to a twisted, sculptural space that also has a sliver of roof light, adding a nice touch to the design in the process.

Take a closer look at the twisted example of modern architecture in the images below. Find out more about the design from the Bjarke Ingels Group. Stay tuned with us here at The Culture Curators for more unique and eye-catching architecture coming very soon.
