We have a soft spot for stunning architecture, especially modern architecture. Located on the San Juan Islands and situated above Puget Sound is a stunning structure dubbed the Washington Hillside Retreat. This unique retreat is a compact complement to the Hillside Sanctuary. This unique dwelling features a simple two-bedroom design which was designed by Hoedemaker Pfeiffer. This offers a modest guest house for visitors, providing a unique, modern, and secluded appeal.
The home features a stone exterior that flawlessly blends with the natural surroundings. A shed roof echoes the main house’s Appalachian influence. Inside we find a spacious design that includes light-filled living spaces. These living areas are located above a pair of bedrooms, while a wooden box containing a glazed dining room floats above the landscape. The windows throughout the dwelling frame the stunning scenery, offering unrivaled views of the rural location from every room. There is also an outdoor terrace that cantilevers toward the water. This unique retreat is anything but simple.
