Matt McCormick Drops ‘Head to the Country’ Book

Matt McCormick is back in the news feed. The artist has released the first book documenting his tattoo practice. The artist spent the years between 2009 and 2017 as a tattoo artist. The book ‘Head To The Country’ spans 396 pages of sketches and finished tattoos primarily made in his studio and on his travels.

Curator Todd Von Ammon stated: “McCormick’s work as a painter concerns itself with a distinct frame of time: the out-of-joint phantasm of the American experience. This snuffed-out folk-spirit lives on primarily in the death-cycle of advertising and merchandising.” The Los Angeles-based artist has seen a rise in interest recently, thanks to his nostalgic aesthetic of vintage Americana. McCormick has also created limited releases of apparel and home goods through the label, One of These Days.

Check out the book in the images and head over to the artist’s online shop to pick up a copy. In the meantime, keep it locked with The Culture Curators for more art and art news coming very soon.
